FWD, RWD And AWD Rally Cars For Under £1,000 - Rally

I wrote the original post when writing articles became available two years ago, I thought that it would be a good idea to write another one but with only £1,000, which is half of the original budget. I’m not including the cost to turn them into rally cars, because it would cost way over £1,000. Every car that I find has have an engine that is 2 litres or smaller, so you won’t find anything like a V6 or V8.

I found a C2 Loeb edition on Autotrader for £750, but I’m including that because only 500 were made and the guy selling it just wanted to get rid of it, so there’s a slim chance of finding one of those again for under £1,000. Instead of the Loeb edition I found a C2 GT for £950. The C2 GT has the same 1.6 litre Inline-four that produces 110 bhp and has a 0-60 time of 9.5 seconds. There are used as budget track day cars and budget rally cars, so there are a lot of aftermarket parts for them which is the case for most french hatchbacks.

RWD – Toyota MR2 2.0 i GT T-Bar

The obvious car to use would be a BMW e36 or e46, but the engines that they came out with are either too big or under-powered, I also want to be a bit more creative with my choice of car. I found a Toyota MR2 2.0 i GT T-Bar on Autotrader for £995, just £5 under the limit. I couldn’t find any powerful (ish) RWD cars that were under 2 litres, so I’ve gone for something mid engines just to get some more weight over the drive wheels for traction purposes. The 3S-GE engine produces 158 bhp and does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds.

AWD – Audi A3 1.8 T Sport Quattro

It was hard to find an all wheel drive car for under £1000 that also had an engine smaller 2 litres and had a good amount of power. Just like in the original post Audi is the answer, but not the S3. I found an A3 1.8T Sport Quattro on Autotrader for £450. It’s a good thing that the A3 was the best cheap thing on Autotrader, because it has that awesome Quattro system. The 1.8 litre Turbocharged Inline-four engine produces 180 bhp and does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.
