Ethnography in Social Science | Lund University

Course name: SANN04, Ethnography in Social Science (Swedish name: Samhällsvetenskaplig etnografi). Advanced level Master Course (Second Cycle). 15 credits. Autumn semester. Language of instruction: English.

To be eligible for a master course you must have passed the bachelor/undergraduate level.

The aim of the course is to analyse the relationship between method and theory in qualitative ethnography. In the course you will read, discuss and analyse ethnographic monographs and articles and carry out empirical, ethnographic, scientific work.  

The theme and the field for the work is chosen in consultation with the teachers. You will also analyse epistemic issues from ethnographic and historical perspectives as well as from contemporary social sciences specialisations and themes. 

The course is offered as a selective course within the Master’s programme in Social Anthropology (SASAN), the Master’s programme in Sociology (SASCO) och the Master’s programme in Cultural Criminology (SACCR). It is also offered as a stand alone course.
