Connect to Wi-Fi on Windows XP | Connect to Wi-Fi on Windows XP | Amherst College

  1. Access Network Connections by clicking Start and then Network Connections. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Available Wireless Networks.
  2. This will launch the Wireless Network Connection configuration screen. Under Choose a wireless network select Amherst or Amherst Secure (we recommend Amherst Secure) and then click on Connect. When connecting to the Amherst Secure network, you will be prompted to authenticate. If you get a message warning about connecting to an unsecure network, click Connect anyway. You should see the strength of your wireless connection once it’s complete.

If your network card is using other wireless access software, you may get an error in the Choose a wireless network window that says “Windows cannot configure this wireless connection”. We recommend you use the native Windows utility instead of whatever came with your computer. To fix this problem:

  1. Click Change advanced settings under Related Tasks.
  2. In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialogue, select the Wireless Networks tab. Select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings box, and then click OK.
