Cartoon Network Aussie Original ‘Monster Beach’ Wins ASTRA

Cartoon Network’s first Australian content commissioned for global distribution — Monster Beach — has picked up the 2015 ASTRA Award for Most Outstanding Children’s Program. The original movie was created by Melbourne-based animation studio Bogan Entertainment Solutions and premiered in Australia last Halloween, before rolling out across Asia. Monster Beach is set to arrive in Europe later this year.

Monster Beach follows two siblings who visit their uncle on a secluded island for the summer, only to find the island in danger and that the locals are surf-crazed monsters. The feature-length special features three-time Gold Logie Award-winner Rove McManus, who voices four characters: Mutt, King Knutt, Brain Freeze and Hodad. ARIA Award-winning comedy group Tripod supplied the music, with all the members performing as the Tiki characters.

Cartoon Network’s global hit Adventure Time was also nominated in the category, as were Disney Cup International (Disney XD) and Camp Orange: Force 10 (Luke and Wyatt: Nickelodeon).
