Brazilian Buttock Lift Cedar Rapids | Iowa City | Coralville

There is perhaps no other part of the body that has received more attention in recent years than the buttocks. From the long sought-after figure of Jennifer Lopez, to the recently coveted backsides of reality stars and Instagram celebrities, voluptuous curves are in. Unfortunately, not everyone is naturally blessed with a silhouette that makes the most of today’s skimpy swimsuits and body-hugging fashions.

If you’ve been wishing for a fuller, perkier, more defined derrière, it may be time to consider a Brazilian buttock lift with Dr. Kahlil Andrews at Dr. Andrews Plastic Surgery. A BBL can give you a more shapely buttock profile while simultaneously slimming a problem area with stubborn fat. The result is not just a better butt, it’s a more appealing body contour overall and a major confidence boost. We invite you to visit us in Cedar Rapids or Coralville to find out whether a Brazilian buttock lift is right for you.

What Is a Brazilian Buttock Lift?

The BBL technique is a method of enlarging or improving the shape of the buttocks using fat injections. During the procedure, excess fat is extracted from elsewhere on the patient’s body with liposuction and strategically injected into the buttocks to enhance shape and volume. Though it is not a completely nonsurgical buttock lift, it is a minimally-invasive procedure that leaves behind very little visible scarring. One of the many advantages of this technique is that it achieves improvements in multiple areas of the body at once — in addition to enjoying a firmer, rounder buttocks, patients also enjoy slimmer contours in areas they could not improve with diet and exercise. Many patients also appreciate that fat transfer provides natural-looking, natural-feeling results that do not involve inserting a foreign object into the body.

Why Choose to Have a Brazilian Buttock Lift?

Everyone has their own reasons for considering a BBL. Dr. Andrews will discuss your cosmetic concerns and your goals during a one-on-one consultation. In general, patients choose Brazilian buttock lift surgery to address the following issues:

  • Buttocks are disproportionately small for your body frame
  • Buttocks are flat or square-shaped, rather than round and projected
  • Buttocks are loose and sagging
  • The left and right buttock are asymmetrical
  • Clothing and swimwear does not fit your figure in a flattering way
  • To reverse the effects of aging, pregnancy, weight fluctuations or gravity

Together, you and Dr. Andrews will discuss how a lower buttock lift could give you the more curvaceous and beautifully balanced figure you’re looking for. Dr. Andrews will help you decide whether a BBL is the best procedure for your goals and design a customized surgical plan for a natural and attractive result.

Am I a Candidate for a Brazilian Buttock Lift?

Buttock augmentation is one of the fastest-growing plastic surgery procedures in the United States, but it is not right for everyone. The ideal patient for a BBL is in good health generally and has an adequate amount of excess fat somewhere on their body, typically around the abdomen, love handles, hips, thighs, arms and/or back. A good candidate for any surgery should be a nonsmoker and should have realistic expectations about the procedure, the recovery and the results.

Individuals with insufficient fat available for harvest are not good candidates for a fat transfer buttock augmentation. Those with a significant amount of excess, sagging skin around their hips, buttocks or thighs may also find that a different procedure is more appropriate for their concerns.

Brazilian Buttock Lift vs Buttock Implants

For the right patient, fat transfer and implants can both be excellent options for gluteal enhancement. Patients with enough excess fat to donate often like the natural look and soft feel a Brazilian buttock lift can provide. Patients who are lean with very little fat to donate may require implants to achieve their desired look. Implants can have a firmer feel, as though you have been lifting weights regularly for years, and tend to require a longer recovery period than a BBL. It’s also important to note that, because implants are artificial devices, there is a chance your body could reject an implant or that an implant could shift out of proper alignment, necessitating an additional surgery.

Your BBL Procedure

On the day of your Brazilian buttock lift, Dr. Andrews will review the procedure with you and answer any remaining questions you have. A BBL can be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on your comfort level and Dr. Andrews’ recommendation. The procedure involves three basic steps.

First, fat is removed with liposuction. To do this, incisions are made in the donor area and a narrow, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted under the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth to loosen the fat, which is then removed from the body via suction. In the second stage of the procedure, the extracted fat is purified and prepared for transfer. Finally, in the third stage, the fat is injected into specific areas of the buttocks to increase volume and create a more pleasing shape.

When the procedure is complete, Dr. Andrews may wrap the donor area in a compression garment and you will spend time in our recovery room while the anesthesia wears off. You will then be able to have a trusted companion drive you home.

Recovering After a BBL

Dr. Andrews will provide you with detailed instructions regarding your postsurgical care, as well as an approximate timeframe for returning to work and physical activities like exercise. You can expect swelling, bruising and soreness at the injection sites and around the areas where you had liposuction. Pain can be managed with medications and wearing your compression garment will help minimize swelling.

Most BBL patients take one to two weeks away from work and daily activities. Light exercise can typically be resumed around four weeks, while strenuous exercise can be resumed in six to eight weeks. You will have regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Andews to ensure you are healing well.

What Results Can I Expect After a Brazilian Buttock Lift?

The final results of your BBL will initially be obscured by swelling. As the swelling starts to subside, you will begin to see your new body contours emerge. It’s normal for a portion of the fat injected into your buttocks to be absorbed by your body. The fat that survives the transfer will remain indefinitely. The slimming effect in the area treated with liposuction will also be relatively permanent, provided you maintain a stable weight. A nutritious diet and exercise should be part of your daily routine to help you maintain your new look. With a healthy lifestyle, you can enjoy your curvier backside and improved silhouette for many years to come.
