💭What Happened In March 2022
March Traffic & RPM’s
I find it a little crazy that my pageviews for March were nearly the same as February especially with the short month. This means that we are definitely heading into the time of year where traffic slumps and I have a hunch that it will more than we think.
During March, the world is on spring break in any of the weeks. Mask mandates are being lifted much quicker and the people who were staying safe inside are finally coming back out into the world. This is a good thing for the world, but has even more of a negative impact on traffic.
I also feel like out of nowhere there was a sudden big drop in traffic for me. It started with a loss of 1200 pageviews from the week before and kept dropping.
I either lost rank for some key posts, or I was affected by the page experience update. Not knowing what the future of this season is going to be like with the blog is a little scary but the most important thing I can do is keep publishing.
Increasing Publishing
I tried to downgrade my posting goal a bit for March and STILL didn’t make it. Instead, I spent more time outside and more time reading and relaxing. I’m not mad that I did this because I’m really trying to strike a balance of hard work and flexibility, but I haven’t been able to find that.
A few weeks ago I went back to look at older posts that I published last year to see if they brought in any traffic after gaining SEO juice for 12 months and most of them have! Basically, investing my time and money into these posts are paying off at the very least, but most of them are creating profit.
Ideally, I would love to post four times per week on TJ. I know that by the end of the year it will help me get ahead. So I asked myself what is the main barrier to getting this done.
After I spend my most clear and focused few hours writing for clients, I have nothing in the tank for my own blog. I found it really hard to write for TJ this month so I decided to dig through old posts and give them to my writer for updates. I then took a look at my finances and decided to get a little bit uncomfortable but invest a bit more money into writing each month and see what happens.
I have so many keywords in a list that I could rank for in my niche but they won’t see the light of day unless I get a bit uncomfortable, so we will see what happens and trust that the content overall leads to a steady gain YOY.
Changing Themes
Last month I mentioned that I was changing over from Feast to Kadence and I did just that! I was a bit scared at first because I was afraid that it would cause some structure issues and a huge drop in traffic. And, maybe this is true but the site looks SO much better and is extremely fast and functional!
I had Kristina’s design eye help me with the aesthetic and it looks so much nicer which makes me want to develop it even more.
There were some hiccups in the process. One of them being that this forced me to get my shit together when it came to categories. I have added a lot more category pages to further organize things. This means that each posts needs to be combed through and recategorized which isn’t fun.
I also lost the advanced jump to block with feast that provided a simple table of contents. Each post has to have it added in and the old block deleted. Luckily my awesome writer is helping me with this too!
Dopamine Cleanse
I’ve been thinking a lot about my time and energy and have come to the conclusion that constant scrolling has been making my experience here on earth a bit dull.
I decided to take tiktok and facebook off of my phone for nearly 2 weeks now. The first few days were extremely uncomfortable. I was irritable from having to feel my feelings instead of scrolling them away.
I did research on dopamine cleanses during this time as well as signed up for a library card where I checked out books and actually am reading them.
The most important thing I’ve realized is that drawing dopamine from your phone dulls everything in real life and its incredibly sad. Without my addictive apps I find myself so much more present, happy, and free?
I’m also sleeping way better and just feel good staying out of that trap. If I want to look at social media, I do it on my desktop so I don’t spend too much time on there. I did also keep reddit on my phone but it hasn’t been an issue because it’s not as attention grabbing as tiktok. I get bored eventually and move on.
Other Sites
The other sites are still a work in progress. Our second site’s traffic is slightly dropping, but can be attributed to a loss of Pinterest traffic. Even though this site is going to be slower to grow, I have full confidence that it will be a very successful site one day even if we work on it one post at a time because that’s all the time and energy we have.
The third site is a little less exciting. It’s a flip that was purchased from someone that didn’t have the same SEO frame of mind that we do. Because of that, most of the work being done on it is cleaning up posts and trying to make them rank. Once this major task is done, we will re-evaluate and see what direction we want to go with it which is either continue to build it, or sell it.

🐰 Blog Plans For April 2022
The last week of March I had zero client work because it was an odd month that had 5 weeks. It was SO nice to spend that extra time outside or taking care of the house or myself. I really want to incorporate that into my life this month especially since we have Easter and a family visit ahead where my son is off from daycare for a few days.
I don’t want this to mean I’m posting less but as stated above, I’m investing a bit more in having that work done for me so I can focus on home life as well as looking at my blog in the big picture making changes and creating a foundation for even more growth!
