A Look Inside Singapore Airlines’ “New” Business Class

Singapore Airlines’ newest A380s feature a business class double bed. This is a huge improvement, especially for couples travelers over the old business class (which we’ll go through below).

You’ll have no problem being comfortable on this journey. Once you’ve realized you’re in the right place, enjoy a nice glass of Champagne before departure. It’s the perfect way to start your flight.

In the refurbished business class cabins, travelers even receive a small clothing refresher amenities kit by The Laundress, New York (in other cabins, Singapore Airlines does not provide an amenity kit due to concerns with wastefulness).

Once in flight, you can expect a nice meal paired with wine or a drink of your choice. As with Singapore first class, you’ll receive great service from the cabin crew. Remember that Singapore Airlines offers “Book the Cook” which allows you to prebook your meals in advance.

Let’s jump back to the preflight experience. You will enjoy business class check-in counters and often priority security lines to ensure you are quickly on your way to the lounge or your flight.

As a business class passenger, you’ll have access to Singapore SilverKris lounges. You can expect an expansive buffet with many types of food, including a great selection of desserts and beverages.

A Look Inside Singapore Airlines “Old” Business Class

When you first set foot in Singapore’s business class cabin, you’re probably going to think you accidentally wandered into first class. Don’t worry, you’re in the right place!

Singapore’s business class product is just that nice. Not only will you have direct aisle access and a lie-flat seat — you’ll have the widest business class seat in the industry. This doesn’t just count other business class seats; it’s one of the widest seats even among first class products!

Basically, the new Singapore Airlines business class offers generously-sized, double bed seats, whereas the old Singapore Airlines business class offers huge, wide seats.

How To Fly Singapore Business Class Using Points

It’s clear that Singapore Airlines provides a premier business class experience, so let’s talk about how to book this flight.

Singapore KrisFlyer

Singapore Airlines does not release much (if any) business class award space to partners. Generally, it only allows business class awards to be booked through its own KrisFlyer program.

You can book your flight online by following these steps:

Visit Singapore Airlines’ website.
Select Redeem Flights.
Select your desired travel dates and route.
Select Business as your cabin of choice.
Hit Search.
Select your flight.

Singapore Airlines also displays “Waitlist” in addition to available award seats. You will need to have the required KrisFlyer miles in your account if you want to waitlist a flight.

Many have been able to get their waitlisted seat confirmed within a week of departure, and some have even been able to do so a month or 2 prior to departure.

You can also book stopovers on award tickets with Singapore Airlines. Stopovers on round-trip Saver-level awards are free.

To book a stopover, you can book your award ticket over the phone, or book online and then call Singapore Airlines to book the stopover.

Additionally, while Singapore Airlines doesn’t have an official policy about putting award tickets on hold, customer service agents might be willing to do so. These holds can be good for up to a couple of days.

Putting an award flight on hold can be particularly useful when transferring points from one of Singapore’s partners. Sometimes your first call won’t be successful, so hang up and call again to try working with a different agent.

Other Options for Booking Singapore Airlines

Unfortunately, it’s very rare for a partner to have access to international business class award space on Singapore Airlines. If you do find space, you could book it with Air Canada Aeroplan, ANA Mileage Club, or Asiana Club.

Recently, some international business class award space between Australia and Singapore has been available to partners for award bookings.

Great Singapore Airlines Business Class Redemptions

You can fly business class from New York (JFK) to Singapore with a connection in Frankfurt, Germany for 111,500 KrisFlyer miles.

To visit Europe, you could also just fly to Frankfurt from New York for 81,000 miles. Or, you could fly from New York all the way to Sydney (connecting in both Frankfurt and Singapore) for 145,500 miles.

From the West Coast, you can fly business class nonstop from San Francisco or Los Angeles to Singapore for 107,000 miles. You can also connect from San Francisco to Hong Kong or from Los Angeles to Tokyo-Narita (NRT) or Taipei (TPE).

If you flew from San Francisco to Hong Kong without continuing on to Singapore, it would cost 100,500 KrisFlyer miles.

If you flew from Los Angeles to Tokyo-Narita, it would cost 103,500 miles. Los Angeles to Taipei would cost 100,500 KrisFlyer miles.

You can also book nonstop business class flights from Newark or New York to Singapore for 111,500 KrisFlyer miles.

Finally, remember that Singapore has a separate award chart for itineraries that involve flights operated by Star Alliance partners. This means that if you connect on United Airlines to catch a Singapore Airlines flight, the mileage cost will be different.

An example of this would be flying from Chicago (ORD) to New York (JFK) on United Airlines and then flying on Singapore Airlines in business class all the way to Sydney.

With the Star Alliance award chart, you would now pay 146,500 miles rather than the 145,000 miles required by the award chart for Singapore-only routes.

To book these Star Alliance awards, you will need to find Singapore award space online as directed above, and then check Air Canada to find United award space for the connection.

Once you do that, you need to call Singapore Airlines (833-727-0118) and provide the flight information to complete the booking.
