Applications of Acrylic Sheets

Lightweight High Impact Mirrored Acrylic

Our range of acrylic materials includes mirror effect acrylic sheets which are perfect for use in fitness areas such as gym and dance studios. They can also be used in the garden as a design feature, enhancing both the light and sense of space. We can supply and fabricate acrylic sheets which are lighter than glass, have better impact resistance and are safer to use around customers.

Tabletops And Table Top Protectors

Using a Perspex cut to size acrylic sheet as a replacement for a glass tabletop is ideal where safety is a concern. Clear acrylic sheets, cut to size make the best tabletop protector.

Now an heirloom piece of furniture with engraving or marquetry can have a new lease of life under the protection of a bespoke cut and polished clear plastic shield. Alongside our clear acrylic sheeting, we also have Glass Look Perspex sheets which have the authentic green tint when looking at the edge of the sheet, keeping the look of real glass but preserving all the benefits of plastic. As a result, our Glass Look acrylic sheet makes for an excellent alternative to the glass whilst keeping the same aesthetic light transmission.

Retail Display

We are experienced suppliers of both cast acrylic sheets and extruded acrylic. Extruded acrylics are perfect for signs and displays for homes and retail. This is because extruded Perspex cut to size acrylics are unaffected by UV light, as well as being weatherproof.

Commercial spaces can benefit from acrylic in numerous ways, from shelving, retail fixtures, wall coverings, branding, and totem signs for offices, hotels or museums. The versatility of acrylic, along with its excellent aesthetic qualities makes it an ideal material to work with.

As a result of this, our cut acrylic sheets make for perfect illuminated signage and outdoor displays. They are also ideal for use in a home setting becoming great options for cabinets and shelves. On the other hand, as cast acrylic sheets have a low softening temperature they can be easily moulded making them great for fabrication and manipulation. A keen DIYer would also be able to use basic tools, or easily manipulate their sheet to create new designs from their Perspex cut to size acrylic sheeting. Perfect for a huge variety of projects.

Light Fittings and Discreet Privacy Glazing

Our acrylic sheets can be used for light fittings, diffusers and privacy glazing. For this, we have Opal, Frosted and Translucent acrylic sheets. These are a form of extruded acrylic and are ideal for use in displays or signs. These diffusers are also great for controlling light, preventing the wandering eyes of passers-by.

Acrylic is commonly used for signage as it can be used effectively for outdoor use as well as indoor applications and is durable enough to withstand the elements. This includes point of sale displays and exhibition stands and overhead signs. Because of their optical clarity and shatterproof properties, acrylic sheet (branded as Perspex sheets) can make a great option for windows, secondary glazing and skylights. Alternatively, check out our coloured acrylic sheet options.

Shed and Playhouse Windows

Cut acrylic sheet has many fun applications too. A playhouse fitted with clear acrylic as an alternative to glass becomes a warm, bug-free environment for children to play in without the associated dangers of window glass. Putting plastic sheet glazing into a Wendy house means that it can also be used to store toys and play equipment over winter, instead of taking up space in a shed or garage preventing the cold and dampness from causing damage.

Wipe Boards, Splashbacks, Signs and Displays

Our opaque Opal acrylic sheet Cut My Plastic also stocks a range of opaque acrylic sheets in a range of colours, including black or white. These are perfect for use as wipe-boards, splashbacks, signs, displays and cabinets, tabletops and wet room wall coverings.

100% Recyclable

Perspex Acrylic is 100% recyclable. Waste products can readily be recovered from the original raw material (the monomer) and re-used in a new sheet.

Perspex has been manufactured in the UK for over 85 years and still takes place on the same site in Lancashire as it did in the 1930s. This short supply distance to our UK customers helps reduce ‘product miles’ from the manufacturing plant to the end user.

Numerous different investments have already been made by Perspex to lessen the impact on the environment. Annual waste consumption has been reduced by 24 million litres, and almost 800 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been saved every year as part of a hot water recycling project. At Cut My Plastic, we work to be more sustainable by using all of our offcuts to heat our manufacturing facility. We are also currently working towards reducing packaging.

Installing Perspex Sheets

When placing your order, you can choose a variety of thicknesses from 2mm through to 30mm, depending on the plastic, application and rigidity you require. You can also request holes and cutouts to be pre-cut for you by our skilled machinists to make installation even easier.

Perspex cut to size acrylic sheets can be installed either by drilling it to the wall or by using an appropriate adhesive to glue it into place, making installation incredibly easy and quick, even for a DIY amateur.

Acrylic sheets are lightweight unlike glass or other materials, so they can be put into place with ease. This is particularly useful when installing larger sheets, such as wall splashbacks.

Important note: It is not recommended to use any kind of acrylic sheeting behind or too close to any kind of heat source. Glass is the most suitable choice in situations involving any kind of heat sources, such as cookers, hobs, open fires, radiators, wood burners, Rayburns, or Agas, as it can withstand temperatures of up to 160°C without being damaged.

Which materials are safe near a heat source?

  • Electric, ceramic and induction hobs are safe to have acrylic panels behind them but there must be at least a 50mm gap between the panel and the hob.
  • The safest option is to use a glass splashback for gas hobs.

Please see our splashback page for more information on cooker types and acrylic.
