2006 FIFA World Cup

The 2006 FIFA World Cup was the 18th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the global championship tournament in men’s association football, held across 12 cities in Germany from 9 June to 9 July 2006.

The defending champions were Brazil, who won the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea. The tournament was won by Italy, which beat France in the Olympiastadion, Berlin, on 9 July 2006.

The official emblem of the 2006 FIFA World Cup was unveiled on 19 November 2002 in Gelsenkirchen, a city in the North Rhine-Westphalia state of Germany.
