10 Best Electric Type Pokemon, According To Ranker

Fans on Ranker have decided on the best electric type Pokémon. From Luxray and Zapdos to Pikachu, who do you think should rank in the top 10?

With season 25 of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series set to premiere later in 2022 on Netflix and being just released in Canada on May 28, 2022, on TELETOON, it’s clear that fans just can’t get enough of their favorite characters. But when it comes to Pokémon, narrowing down favorites is always difficult. Different fans love different Pokémon, as each Pokémon is special in its own way. Electric types are easy to love, as their powerful attacks can zap a player’s way through almost any game.

Typically found in the power plant in any given region, though sometimes in laboratories, caves or roaming wilderness, depending on the mon, these electric types can be very beneficial to a team. Fans on Ranker determined their favorite electric types, ranking some of the most powerful electric Pokémon available at the top.

Pikachu

Being the mascot of the Pokémon franchise definitely earns Pikachu some points. The electric mouse is a beloved character by both friends of the cartoon and of the games, dating back to Generation I. Pikachu is the only electric type that’s available as a starter Pokémon in the mainline games, as a testament to its popularity.

Ash’s Pikachu in the anime is likely much of the reason for the mon’s love from the community, as it represents the bond a human can have with a Pokémon. Anyone who’s watched the show and loves the games has imagined themselves exploring the wonderful world of Pokémon with their favorite up on their shoulder. For new fans looking to try out the games, Let’s Go: Pikachu is one of the best Pokémon games for beginners.

Mega Manectric

Added in Generation VI to the Generation III Manectric was its mega-evolved form, turning the quick field electric type from Hoenn into a highly powerful team member, and a very popular choice for competitive Pokémon battling.

To evolve a Manectric, a trainer must acquire a Manectite, an item exclusive to Pokémon X. For many serious players, this has been a must, as Manectric is a formidable teammate. The mega evolved form turned the Generation III with mediocre stats from a Pokédex entry to a must-have for players of the main games or Pokémon Go.

Raichu

Pokemon Legends Arceus Raichu Easter Egg

Many fans have followed in Ash’s footsteps of keeping their Pikachu unevolved, while many others actually prefer the orange, evolved form. Raichu is generally more powerful, and some prefer its design. The choice varies based on each player’s sentiment.

Raichu is easy to acquire in most games, as the thunderstone is often a very obtainable item, making it so players who want the extra power boost early on can make the choice whenever they choose. Anime fans will most notably recall Lt. Surge’s Raichu, as its battle with Ash’s Pikachu was one of the most emotional bonding moments for the show’s main characters.

Electivire

Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Where To Find (& Catch) Electivire

Generation IV brought in some wonderful additions to the evolution lines of already popular Pokémon, as well as some that were generally less appreciated. Electivire was the former, as it became a highly popular choice for lineups in Diamond and Pearl, and could also be acquired easily through the Pokémon Revolution Wii Game.

Electivire was introduced ahead of the Diamond and Pearl series by Gary, who brought his Electivire to battle Ash’s Pikachu, hinting ahead at the Sinnoh adventures to come. Similarly with Harrison’s Blaziken in Johto, seeing the Electivire ahead of time made it a notable Pokédex entry for fans heading into Generation IV.

Ampharos

A popular Pokémon due to its loveable design and important presence in the Johto storyline in the Generation II games and their Generation IV remakes, Ampharos is an adorable but also powerful electric-type Pokémon. Gym Leader Jasmine’s Ampharos, ‘Amphy’ is the most notable in the series.

The Pokémon is known for lighting the Glitter Lighthouse in Olivine City, and for the storyline in the cartoon where Ash had to gather medicine for it when it got sick. A Mega Evolution was added to the Pokédex in Generation VI.

Jolteon

Pokémon BDSP Best Competitive Electric-Type Jolteon

Eevee forms are typically very popular, with Jolteon, one of the original three, as no exception. Jolteon is one of the fastest Pokémon in the games, making it a great addition to a team looking to pack in a quick punch.

Jolteon is a glass cannon, so after its quick damage output, it can be taken out fairly easily. Surprisingly, the Eevee evolutions haven’t all had much screen time in the anime, with Jolteon only rarely appearing in battles, perhaps notably with the Sinnoh gym leader Volkner.

Zekrom

One of two main legendary Pokémon from Generation V, Zekrom is the mascot and cover for Pokémon Black. The Dragon and Electric-type combo makes it very deadly, and acquiring one can allow the player to make quick work of the rest of the game.

Zekrom is a central point of the game’s storyline, which usually results in popularity. The exploration of the mythology of each Pokémon region is always exciting, and Black and White offered an interesting dynamic with its counterpart, Reshiram.

Zapdos

One of the first legendary Pokémon ever available for trainers to catch was Zapdos, and the nostalgia of venturing through the Kanto Power Plant to catch the bird was an exciting experience. The scale of legendary Pokémon has increased since those games, making the original trio of birds seem miniature to the lords of time and space fans would encounter later on. Fortunately, these Pokémon still have wonderful designs.

Zapdos’ most memorable encounter with Ash in the animated series was in the second movie, Pokémon the Movie 2000, where the bird was captured by a man named Lawrence III, hoping to enact an ancient prophecy.

Raikou

Another classic legendary Pokémon, and a member of the trio of legendary beasts in Johto, Raikou is one of the most beloved electric type Pokémon available. The three have deep roots in the Johto mythology, having apparently been resurrected by Ho-Oh.

The three beasts are often wandering around the regions they’re obtainable in, making their capture a difficult task requiring strategy and preparation. Raikou has unfortunately appeared the least in the animated series, while Suicune and Entei had prevalent roles in the third and fourth movies.

Luxray

Luxray is a deadly cat in the Pokemon anime

Luxray is one of the coolest Pokémon designs ever made and is, funnily enough, one of the easiest Pokémon to obtain in Generation IV, as Shinx can be added to the team minutes after obtaining the first set of Pokéballs. Luxray is very strong, and most notably used by Volkner of the Sunyshore gym.

Not only is Luxray one of the best electric Pokémon, but he’s also one of the best Pokémon in Generation IV altogether, a set of mons that included some of the best legendaries, starters, and Pokémon all around.
