Honda CRF250 Rally

Right off the bat we have a more dirt oriented machine that is approachable in terms of power and price, but has a relatively high seat height so might be off-putting for beginners.
via Ultimate Motorcycling
It is excellent off-road, but it should not be part of your plans if there is any highway riding involved, this is strictly for back roads, dirt roads or no roads.

Kawasaki KLR650
Via rideapart.com
The KLR has remained almost unchanged for a very long time now, but it still has a lot going for it. Even brand new it is still affordable, and incredibly reliable, it is however painfully slow on the road.
Via cycleworld.com
In an effort to make the bike work the road, the tires that come standard will leave you struggling for traction when off-road. It is rather obviously more of a dual sport/enduro trying to be an Adventure machine, for those willing to accept the compromise, it offers tremendous value.

Royal Enfield Himalayan
via Royal Enfield
In stark contrast to what we all expected when they entered the global market, they have proved reliable.
Via Pinterest
By keeping it simple, their slightly detuned bikes have become something of a global phenomenon, with retro looks and just about enough power to get up to highway speeds. The Himalayan is more of the same, just with a more off-road flavor.

Honda CB500X
Ultimate Motorcycling
If you are a beginner looking for your first motorcycle, this would be a fantastic choice. With a relatively approachable seat height, enough power to keep up on the highway and naturally Honda reliability, it has few peers at this price point.
Itchy Boots
It is marketed as off-road ready, but it has to be said in standard trim it is far more road oriented. So, if you plan on hitting the trails, it is wise to invest in some better tires at the very least.

Triumph Tiger 850 Sport
Via: Christian Pierce
When it was first launched it seemed like Triumph were taking a rather strange direction, but the Tiger has become a staple, often outselling all their other models.
It has a torquey, tractable triple that delivers good, not so beginner-friendly power. It works well off-road too and is a lot of bike for the price.

Kawasaki Versys 650
Via pitstopweekly.com
Most of the bikes Kawasaki make are performance-oriented machines, leading to somewhat questionable reliability in some instances.
Via visordown.com
By turning to the parallel-twin configuration they banish all those “demons” rather convincingly, the Versys and the other bikes that share the same beginner-friendly 650 platforms all have stellar reliability records. It is a solid, if slightly uninspiring, all-rounder that does everything you want it to.

Suzuki V-Strom 650
via: motos2020.com.br
At its core, this is one of the most incredible beginner-friendly motorcycles. Not only can it go anywhere, it delivers sublime performance while going there.
via OmniMoto.It
Its V-twin powerplant is far more appealing than most of the opposition parallel twins, and has torque for days as an added bonus. It is a well-built, fun adventure bike at a bargain price, and it should have more sales than it does, but, sadly, there are few bikes designed to look as uninspiring as the strangely named V-Strom.

KTM 790 Adventure R
Via ktm.com
One of the best bikes in this market segment may not be all that appealing for a number of reasons.
europe.outbackmotortek.com
Firstly, the main topic of discussion is its looks, boy is it ugly. Looks can be ultra subjective, but few will go as far as saying they like how it looks. Then there is the price, although it could be considered budget friendly for a KTM, it is right at the top end of the budget when you compare it to the competition.

Aprilia Tuareg 660
InSella
Not much info is out there about the upcoming Tuareg, pretty much all we have at the moment is a spec sheet from their other 660s already on the market.
Via: World-today News
It has the potential to blow the competition out of the water, if public perception is anything to go by, the 660 platform is a smash hit, able to make as much as 100 horsepower in a compact, relatively lightweight frame. We can’t wait to see what the final version of the Taureg looks like.

Yamaha Tenere 700
Via: Yamaha
The Tenere is something of a Goldilocks machine, able to do everything the other bikes do, just that much better.
via Top Gear Philippines
It owes a lot to the versatile, tractable parallel crossplane twin, which makes long rides a lot more comfortable than the other more dirt oriented machines. Its lightweight, flickable chassis makes it a blast off-road too, yet still somehow comes in at under $10k.
